The Blackwing Volumes 143 is a special edition pencil dedicated to Frida Kahlo, one of the most influential and recognizable artists of the 20th century. Celebrating her extraordinary creativity, resilience and artistic legacy, this edition pays tribute to a woman who transformed personal suffering into some of the most powerful and expressive works in modern art.

On September 17, 1925, at just 18 years old, Frida Kahlo was seriously injured when a bus collided with a trolley car in Mexico City. The accident left her bedridden for months and profoundly changed the course of her life. With a mirror suspended above her bed, she began painting what she could see most clearly: herself. This experience marked the beginning of an artistic journey defined by introspection, emotional honesty and remarkable determination.

Through her celebrated self-portraits, Frida explored themes of identity, physical pain, love, passion and the female experience. Her distinctive artistic language combined vivid colors, powerful symbolism and elements of Mexican and indigenous culture, creating deeply personal works that continue to inspire audiences around the world.

The Blackwing Volumes 143 captures the spirit of Frida Kahlo through an elegant floral design inspired by her iconic imagery. Each pencil features Blackwing's soft graphite, offering a smooth and expressive writing and drawing experience that reflects the creative freedom at the heart of her artistic legacy.

The edition's number, 143, references the 143 paintings commonly attributed to Frida Kahlo throughout her lifetime, connecting the pencil directly to her extraordinary body of work.

More than a writing instrument, the Blackwing Volumes 143 is a celebration of artistic expression, individuality and the enduring power of creativity. A distinctive addition to the Blackwing Volumes collection, created for artists, writers, collectors and admirers of Frida Kahlo's remarkable legacy.
